Obituary Notice: Rose M. Rauch

Rose M. Rauch, 88, of Clearfield died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at UPMC Altoona.

She was born Nov. 29, 1929, a daughter of the late Walter and Frances (Billotte) Kyler.

Mrs. Rauch worked at Bell Telephone as an operator and Shawville Coal and Lingle Coal Company. She worked in various bookkeeping positions and most recently for Lawrence Township.

She was a member of the Shawville United Methodist Church, where she volunteered for various events. She was also a member of the LIFT Group.

She’s survived by three children, Louis Rauch and his wife, Darlene of Curwensville, Colleen Rumery and her husband, John of Clearfield and Bonnie Myers of Indiana; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Francine Shipley of Shawville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents;  loving husband, Joseph Rauch, to whom she was married Aug. 19, 1949 and who died Aug. 23, 1999; three brothers, Louis,  Rene and Everett Kyler;  two sisters, Yvonne Stradley and Loretta Chencharick; a son-in-law, Robert Myers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc., with the Rev. Robert Henry officiating. Burial will be at Eden Cemetery.

Friends and family are invited to the funeral home from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shawville United Methodist Church, Route 879, Shawville, PA 16873.

Margaret Ann Harzinski, 89, of Curwensville died Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Ridgeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Curwensville.

Born Feb. 4, 1929, she was the daughter of Oscar and Caroline (Kupko) Sutika.

Mrs. Harzinski had worked for the former Ames Department Store in Clearfield as a customer service representative.

She was a member of the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville, where she also was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

On Aug. 21, 1948 in Curwensville, she wed Raymond George Harzinski, who preceded her in death May 15, 2016.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Joseph Lash; and five brothers, Andrew, Frank, John, Henry and Oscar “Sonny” Sutika.  She was the last member of her generation.

Surviving are four children, Karen Rogers and her husband, Harry “Zip” of Paoli, Pa., JoAnn Wills and her husband, Bob of Curwensville and Susan Sherick and her husband, Frank and Raymond Steven Harzinski and his wife, Jodi, both of Clearfield.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

At the request of Mrs. Harzinski, there will be no public visitation.

A private Family Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville at a later date.  Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.

The family suggests contributions be made to the Clearfield County SPCA, 275 21st St., Clearfield, PA 16830.

Esther Louise Neeper, 78, of Clearfield died Thursday, May 3, 2018 at her home.

She was born Dec. 27, 1939, a daughter of the late Leonard Lee ‘Hoppy’ Glace Sr. and Betty Louise (Miller) Glace.

She was a homemaker. She was also employed as a waitress and server at multiple establishments in the area.

She was a member of the ladies auxiliaries of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post No. 6, the Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars F. Michael Sicks Post No. 1785 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 812.

She is survived by her children, Edward Neeper Jr. and his wife, Lorie (Jeannie) of Curwensville, Earl Neeper and his wife, Annette and Tina Neeper, both of Clearfield, Brenda Sloppy and her husband, Gerald of Ansonville, Anita Voss and her husband, Donald of Manassas, Va., and Brian Neeper of Butler; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Kephart and Thelma Maines, both of Clearfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Leroy Neeper, on April 23, 1997 and to whom she was wed Dec. 19, 1958 at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Clearfield.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, Leonard ‘Sonny’ Glace Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with Dr. Duane A. White officiating.  Burial will follow in the Centre Cemetery, Hyde.

Friends will be received from 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Herman Smith, 73, of Irvona died May 3, 2018 at the Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown.

Born Nov. 15, 1944 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late George and Frances (Freeman) Smith.

He was a member of the Irvona Fire Company. He served as a past treasurer for the fire company.

He was recently a member of the Irvona Borough Council. He previously served as vice president. He was an avid NASCAR fan.

He’s survived by his wife, Gail (Merritt) Smith; son, Daniel Smith and his wife, Sandra of Irvona; and sisters, Jackie Pavlo and Dorothy Swisshelm and her husband, Russell, both of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George Smith, David Smith, William Smith, Joseph Smith, Homer Smith, Robert Smith and the Rev. JT Campbell; sisters, Frances Hockenberry, Beverly Thompson, Joan Harrison and Marian Berry; niece, Dorothy Hockenberry; grandson, Jacob Daniel Smith; and granddaughter, Kathryn Ann Smith.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Lloyd Dimmick Funeral Home.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastors Dick Michael and Jim Hurd officiating.  Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, rural LaJose.

Marsha A. Shifter, 70, of Clearfield died Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Knickerbocker Villa.

She was born Dec. 7, 1947, the daughter of the late Paul and Gertrude (Livergood) Kyler.

On July 19, 1969, she married Duane Shifter at the West Side United Methodist Church.

She was a 1965 graduate of the Clearfield Area High School and 1966 graduate of the DuBois Business College.

She went on to work for the Clearfield Area School District as a teacher’s aide.

She was a member of the Center Grove United Methodist Church.  One of her favorite pastimes was reading.

She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Duane Shifter of Clearfield; three sons, Brian Shifter and Kevin Shifter and his wife, Autumn, both of Clearfield, and Jeffery Shifter and his wife, Adrianne; two grandchildren, John and Gianna Shifter, both of Pittsburgh; a brother, Richard Kyler and his fiancée, Vicki McCauslin of Rockton; a sister, Sharon Domire and her husband, Rod of College Station, Texas; a sister-in-law, Jeannine Barger and her husband, Robert of Clearfield; two aunts, Joan Marshall of Jersey Shore and Jean Price and her husband, James of Clearfield; four nephews; and two nieces.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. Burial will be in Eden Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. An additional hour of viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Monday at the funeral home.

John “PJ” Patterson, 68, of Irvona died May 4, 2018 at his residence.

He was born June 27, 1949 in Philipsburg, the son of the late Frederick and Lois (Sincox) Patterson. He was married to Judy (Noel) Patterson, who survives.

Mr. Patterson was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the Coalport Free & Accepted Masons Lodge 574; the Fred R. Korman Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 55, where he was a past noble grand; Coalport Lions Club, where he was a past president, lion tamer and tail twister; the Richard L. Beers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7043; Clearfield County Planning Commission; Pennsylvania State Mayors’ Association; and Glendale Industrial Development Association, where he was president and Irvona Borough, where he was mayor at the time of his death.

In addition to his wife, he’s survived by his daughters, Tiffany Patterson of South Riding Va., and Jennifer O’Shell and her husband, Denny of Irvona and sons, John Patterson of Houtzdale, Matthew Patterson of Haymarket, Va., and John Weakland of Rosebud.

Mr. Patterson is also survived by his grandsons, Devon Patterson and Piper Rolli and granddaughters, Nichole Coccia and Samantha Warner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Lori Hewitt-Patterson.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home Inc., 91 Rose St., Irvona.

The IOOF will hold a service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A masonic service will be held at 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

George Fetcenko III, 68, of (Allport) RD Morrisdale died Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 22, 1950 in Philipsburg, a son of George N. Fetcenko Jr. and Laverne E. (Berkley) Fetcenko, both of whom preceded him in death.

He graduated from Philipsburg–Osceola Area High School in 1968. Following high school, he served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era.

During his career, he had been employed as a bricklayer, operated his own tri-axle dump truck and worked as a H.E. mechanic for Penn State University.

He took an early retirement to fully enjoy his love of hunting, fishing and classic cars.

He was married Nov. 12, 1976, in Philipsburg to the former Joann V. Tekely, who survives at home.

There will be no public visitation or service. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Dixie L. Polites, 55, of Grampian died Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Penn Highlands Dubois.

Born Nov. 3, 1962 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of Pauline L. Quigley.

She was employed by Cen-Clear as a Pre-K teacher/aide; she was employed there for more than 20 years. She attended the St. Bonaventure’s Roman Catholic Church in Grampian.

On May 23, 1998 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Grampian, she wed Scott V. Polites, who survives of Grampian.

Also Surviving are her mother, Pauline L. Quigley of Grampian and two children, Danielle Aughenbaugh and her fiancé, Jonathan Dotts of Glen Richey and Dylan Polites and his wife, Anna of Fredericktown, Pa.

Also surviving are four grandchildren, Drevyn Dotts, Braylin Dotts, Daryn Polites and Wyatt Polites; a sister, Jacki Kendrick and her husband, Richard of Clearfield; mother-in-law, Carol Polites and her significant other, Gilbert Bressler of Grampian; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Bonaventure’s Roman Catholic Church in Grampian with Father L. Stephen Collins officiating. Burial will be held in St. Bonaventure’s Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville.

A Christian vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Michael L. Lippert,   65, of Curwensville died Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

He was born Oct. 3, 1952 in Clearfield, a son of the late Floyd G. Lippert and Roxie J. Lippert Curry.

Mr. Lippert was formerly employed by Bayer Clothing Company and Kent’s Sportswear.  He was a life member of the Curwensville Rescue Hose & Ladder Co.

He is survived by his daughter, Christina Altemus and her husband, Jon of Clearfield and two grandchildren, Jaycee and Jack.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Lester and Harold Lippert.

As per Mr. Lippert’s wishes, no services will be held at this time.

Lynette F. (Bayne) Molina, 67, of Brockway died peacefully Sunday, May 6, 2018 at her home that she shared with her sister, Sue.

She was born in Short Creek, W.Va., and the daughter of the late John and Eileen (Dickson) Bayne.

After raising her family, she received her certified nursing assistant (CNA) license and managed a personal care home in Tarentum, Pa., for 17 years.

After moving to Brockway with her sister, she helped with her Bed & Breakfast and catering business.

She also worked part-time at the Goodwill store in Brockway. She ended her career in healthcare as an in-home private duty caregiver.

She attended the Lakeside United Methodist Church in DuBois, where she served as a greeter and volunteered in the outreach dinner program. She also volunteered at the Brockwayville Depot.

She enjoyed making latch-hook rugs, playing bingo, puzzles and going to casinos, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and her three great-nephews, Tyler, Jacob and Andrew McIntosh.

She is survived by her daughter, Michele Brestensky and her husband, Dave of Freeport, Pa.; a son, Michael Hails and his wife, Kim of Springdale, Pa.; two sisters, Jonnie “Sue” Ferranti of Brockway and Sandra Green of Ashtabula, Ohio; seven grandchildren, D.J., Amanda and Asti Brestensky and Lauren, Kaitlyn Courtney and Collin Hails; two nieces, Michele Pfeil of Florida and Susan (Ferranti) McIntosh of DuBois; and three nephews, Steve and Brian Mihalic of Ohio and Tim Mehalic of North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Ziedler.

There will be a private family viewing.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lakeside United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Kirby officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc.

Dorothy Tibbens, 80, of Clearfield died Sunday, May 6, 2018 at her residence.

She was born Feb. 22, 1938 in Curwensville, the daughter of James A. Hoover Sr. and Twila (Mars) Hoover.

She is survived by seven children, including sons, William Tibbens III and his wife, Angie, Mark and Angel Tibbens, Michael Tibbens and his wife, Dawn and Doug and Tammy Tibbens and daughters, Twila Tibbens, Mary Curl and her husband, Pat and Heather Kolbe and her husband, James.

She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Josephine Hoover.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Tibbens; three grandchildren, Ashley Tibbens, Joseph Kratlain and Onashey Tidwell; four brothers, Ray Hoover Sr., Paul Hoover, James Hoover Sr., and Ralph Hoover; three sisters, Sarah Hoover, Twila Schubert and Mary Krupelak; and two nephews, Timothy Hoover and James Hoover Jr.

Lucille “Lucy” Williams, 83, of Philipsburg died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at her residence. She was born May 19, 1934 in Port Matilda.

She graduated from high school and was a devoted homemaker and caregiver for her entire career.

She had been a member of the Fountain of Life Church, RD Philipsburg, for 30 years.

She was married in Port Matilda to Merrill K. Williams, who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter; an infant son; one daughter and her husband, Darlene F. (Williams) Nearhood and Randy R. Nearhood Sr.; one grandson, Merrill K. Nearhood; a sister, Irene Emerton; and one brother, “Poodle” Stine.

She is survived by one grandson, Randy R. Nearhood Jr.; four great-grandchildren: Randy Nearhood III, Mercedes Nearhood, Destiny Nearhood and Vegas Nearhood and numerous extended family members.

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Fountain of Life Church, RD Philipsburg, with the Rev. Dewey Evans officiating.

Burial will be in Black Oak Cemetery, (Flat Rock) Port Matilda.

Janet M. (Smith) Korinchak, 77, of Garwood, N.J., and formerly of Philipsburg, died peacefully Sunday, April 29, 2018.

Born Oct. 14, 1940 in Philipsburg, she was a daughter of the late Clair Smith and Lenore (Jackson) Smith.  She had resided in Garwood, N.J., for the last 55 years.

She had been a crossing guard in Garwood for 30 years.  She was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Garwood Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Garwood Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her devoted children, Thomas (Mai) Korinchak, Christopher (Wendy) Korinchak and Karyn (Gus) Alvarez and seven beloved grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas in 1995; a sister, Patricia Archer; and a brother, Donald C. Smith.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Monday, May 14 at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home Inc., 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg.

A graveside burial service will immediately follow at the Philipsburg Cemetery with Pastor Christine Roe officiating.

Kenneth H. “Styme” Teats Sr., 59, of Philipsburg and formerly of Osceola Mills, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at his home.

Born Feb. 20, 1959 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Kenneth H. Buchanan and Esther L. Teats.

He was of the Christian Faith.

Mr. Teats was an assembler for Coil Specialty Inc. in State College.  He was a 1977 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola High School.

He also graduated from the Clearfield County Career & Technology Center in 1977 and from the South Hills Business School in 2002.

While attending the CCCTC, his design was used to construct the gazebo in Witmer Park in Clearfield.

He enjoyed art, music, old movies, hiking in the woods and making home-drawn Christmas cards.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, James A. Callahan and Joseph G. Mayes, who helped raise him after the death of his father.

He is survived by one son, Kenneth H. Teats Jr. of Philipsburg; two sisters, Jeanne L. Callahan of Osceola Mills and Lisa K. Hartmann of Bordentown, N.J.; and one brother, Jeffrey M. Teats of Osceola Mills.

He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Ruth Teats of Houtzdale; four nieces, Jessica C. Lindstrom, Jamie L. Callahan, Jenna S. Hartmann and Khandyce English; one great-niece, Hunter J. Lindstrom; and one great-nephew, Callan J. Lindstrom.

At his request, there will be no viewing of funeral service. Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills.

Shirley A. Reams, 82, of Morann died Thursday, May 10, 2018 at her home.  Born May 12, 1935 in Osceola Mills, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie (Osewalt) Jaskowak.

She is survived by five daughters, Mary Ann Johnson of Falls Church, Va., Debbie Reams of Clearfield, Renee Holt of Morann, Tammy Green and her husband, Robert of Owings Mills, Md., and Amy Jo Campbell of Morrisdale.

She is also survived by five sons, Arnold Lee Reams and his wife, Cecil of Bellwood, Richard Reams and his wife, Nanette of Clearfield, David Reams and his wife, Sheila of Brisbin, Thomas Reams and his wife, Jennifer of Etters, Pa., and Randy Reams and his wife, Pam of Morann.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC in Osceola Mills, with the Rev. Robert Bruinooge officiating.  Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills.

Arma Berg, 91, of Mary Street, Houtzdale, died Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Ginter at the home of his son, David and Sharon Berg.

Born Jan. 8, 1927 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Charles and Julia (Tubo) Berg. Arma was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale.

He was a member of the Houtzdale American Legion Freeberg Post No. 591 and Stephen Kandrack Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6321, Smithmill. He was also a former member of the Houtzdale Loyal Order of Moose No. 327.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force in Japan. He later served as a corporal in the U.S. Army in the Korea War.

He retired from Flango Brothers, where he was employed as a truck driver. Arma enjoyed playing cards, being outdoors, gardening and gambling.

On Nov. 6, 1953 in St Lawrence Catholic Church, Houtzdale, he married Jeanne Faye (Albright) Berg, who preceded him in death Nov. 3, 2001.

Arma is survived by a daughter, Brenda Berg of Houtzdale and three sons, Michael Berg and his wife, Donna of  Midland, Mich.,  Barry Berg of Houtzdale and David Berg and his wife, Sharon, who was Arma’s caregiver, of Ginter.

Also surviving are five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Hanna Berg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Arma was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five brothers and two sisters. He was the last of his generation.

Family and friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale, with Father Marc Solomon as celebrant.

Burial will follow at the American Legion Cemetery, Brisbin, with graveside military honors to be accorded by the Houtzdale American Legion Honor Guard.

The family requests that memorial donations be made in Arma’s name to Christ the King Catholic Church, 123 Brisbin St., Houtzdale, PA 16651.

Mona J. Krause, 74, of Philipsburg died Thursday, May 10, 2018 at her home.  Born Aug. 26, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Clara (McCully) Bratton.

Along with her husband, she is survived by one son, Randy R. Krause and his wife, Connie of Philipsburg.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Abundant Life Fellowship Family Life Center in Philipsburg.

Dolly E. Hand, 83, of Clearfield died Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

She was born July 10, 1934, a daughter of the late Albert and Mable (Passmore) Smeal.

Mrs. Hand is survived by her husband, Harry W. ‘Bill’ Hand and three children, William Hand and his wife, V. Gail and Kenny Hand, both of Clearfield, and April Davis of Punta Gorda, Fla.

As per Mrs. Hand’s wishes, there will be no public services observed at this time. Burial will be in the Centre Cemetery, Hyde.

Barry L. Westover, 52, of Northern Cambria and formerly of LaJose, died Friday, May 11, 2018 at the UPMC Altoona Hospital.  He was born in Clearfield, the son of Lemoine E. Westover and Donna Bell.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15 at the Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home Inc., Irvona, Pa.

Services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev Toby Mellott officiating.  Burial will be in the Harmony Cemetery, Westover, Pa.

Russell P. Reiter, 52, of Roanoke, Va., died at his home Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

Born April 6, 1966 in Philipsburg, he was a son of Edward P. Reiter, who survives of Philipsburg, and the late June (Roach) Reiter.

In addition to his father, he is survived by two sons, Matthew and Joshua, both of Roanoke, Va.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the social hall of Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 400 S. Fourth St., Philipsburg, with Pastor Christine Roe officiating.
